Care & Materials

Good materials ask for very little — but they do ask. These notes cover everything we sell, by material.

Silk scarves

Our scarves are 100% mulberry silk with hand-rolled, hand-stitched edges.

  • Dry clean, or hand wash separately in cool water with a drop of silk wash. Never wring or twist.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sunlight, and iron on the coolest setting while slightly damp if needed.
  • Keep perfume and hairspray off the silk — spray first, scarf last.
  • Store folded loosely or rolled, out of direct light. A crease from folding relaxes out with wear; a snag from a rough hanger does not.

Hair pieces — velvet, satin and silk

  • Keep velvet dry; if it is crushed, hold it briefly over steam and brush the pile gently with a soft, dry brush.
  • Wipe satin and silk pieces with a dry cloth only. Store bows resting on their loops, not under anything heavy, so the shape keeps.
  • Apply hair products before you put a piece in — lacquer dulls silk and velvet alike.

Hair pieces — crystal and pearl

  • Crystals and pearls are set by hand; treat the piece as jewellery. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
  • Keep away from water, perfume and hairspray, and store in the pouch or box it arrived in, separate from harder pieces.

Hair pieces — acetate, leather and metal

  • Tortoise acetate polishes with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it out of prolonged heat (a hot car will warp it) and away from acetone and alcohol sprays.
  • Leather headbands wipe clean with a barely damp cloth; condition only rarely, and never soak.
  • Metal pieces — barrettes, clips and pins — dry fully if they get wet, to keep the steel bright.

Sunglasses

Our frames are acetate and metal with lenses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

  • Clean lenses with the microfibre cloth provided; for marks, rinse first under lukewarm water, then polish. Never use paper towel or clothing — both scratch.
  • Put frames on and take them off with two hands, and rest them folded, lens-up. The top of the head is not a storage place; it stretches the fit.
  • Keep them in their case when they are not being worn, and out of high heat.
  • A loose hinge is a thirty-second fix at any optician — do not force it.

What arrives with your order

Hair pieces and scarves are wrapped for gifting and for storage. Sunglasses arrive in a protective hard case with a microfibre cleaning cloth. If anything arrives short of that standard, write to us at sassyava@outlook.com.
